SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (Monday, July 10, 2017) – The 2017 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) season is over for the Southern California Sports. The club said goodbye to its second-ever-campaign in the league on Sunday (July 9) with a 3-3 draw against Temecula FC at the Fairplex.
Wingback Alex Zaragoza, who scored his fifth goal of the season, and defender Daniel Lopez were SoCal SC’s scorers on the final match of the season. The team also benefited from an own goal made by a Temecula FC defender.
“We started a little shaky”, said midfielder Bryan Orta. “We adjusted, got our first goal and them team revitalized and we wanted to tie the game. In the second half, we started well, but they went up by one. Luckily we structured again, started playing very well, started attaining the control of the game again and we were able to get the result”.
With the result, SoCal SC ends the season at the 5th place in the West SouthWest Conference, with 18 points. The club had five wins, three ties and eight losses over 16 regular season matches.
Despite of not making to the postseason, SoCal SC had somehow a successful season as the team showed a good performance on the field against some of the strongest teams of the league and achieved its main goal, which is developing players.
“We have the two sides of the coin to look at in the end of the season”, head coach Daniel Musatti commented. “ The bad side is that we didn’t qualify. The good side is that we achieved our goal. We did better than four teams in our bracket and many others nationally with a very young group. It’s understandable that everybody wants to develop, qualify and win. But sometimes when you want everything, you get nothing”.
