SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (Thursday, May 18, 2017) – The Southern California Sports Club had its first weekend off since the start of the 2017 National Premier Soccer League (NPSL), but the team didn’t stop working as recovering is the club’s primary goal for the second half of the season.
After eight games, one less than every other rival in the NPSL Southwest Conference, SoCal SC is looking to get out from an uncomfortable seventh placed of the division, a situation Interim Head Coach Samuel Bernabe is eager to change during the second portion of the regular season. The first step will be against City of Angels FC on Saturday, at home.
“On these two weeks, our focus has been preparing the team for the second half of the season”, says Bernabe. “We must take a step-by-step approach, focusing only in the next game, as we have no more room for mistakes. The management group has made significant efforts for this team to be in a better place, and it’s our job as coaches to take us there”.
“Coach Musatti conducted several individual and team drills, last week, which it will solidify the team’s performance for the upcoming matches”, completed Bernabe. Midfielder Jorge Moreno was pleased with the possibility of focusing on training for back-to-back weeks.
“This break was very welcome as we could step back and focus on our daily training sessions”, he commented. “We are working as a team instead of focusing only on defense or offense and I am pretty confident that each of us will be better for the upcoming weeks, as well as the team”.
SoCal SC resumes official competition this Saturday (May 20), against City of Angels FC, at the Fairplex, at 6PM (PT). Tickets are already on sale.
