SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (Wednesday, June 14, 2017) – The Southern California Sports Club will not have the talent of midfielder Jorge Moreno on its last two regular season matches of the National Premier Soccer League (NPLS) as the Mexican is scheduled to try out for four Spanish clubs in July, including La Liga’s Leganés.
One of SoCal SC’s captains, Moreno, 22, will depart to Spain on July 2nd and will miss SoCal SC’s road match against Albion Pros SC and home game against Temecula FC. The midfielder has also arranged try out sessions with Spain’s second tier sides Rayo Vallecano, Albacete and Getafe.
“We will definitely miss Jorge, but we are all very excited about the opportunities he has in Spain”, SoCal SC’s Interim General Manager Renan Dalberto said. “Our main goal as a club is to prepare our young players to the next level and we are really confident that Jorge has what it takes to succeed overseas because of his talent and his hard work. We would like to thank him for his professionalism with the club and wish him all the best on the next steps of his career”.
A product of Mexico’s top tier Rayados de Monterrey’s academy, Moreno joined SoCal SC before the start of the 2017 NPSL and recorded four goals and four assists so far, including preseason and regular season games.
“I’m very thankful to SoCal SC as they opened their doors to me and allowed me to play for them this season”, Moreno commented. “It was an amazing experience in a great organization, which is committed to provide the best for the players and the staff, and the best preparation I could have. I can’t wait to take the try outs in Europe. This is a big moment in my career and I’m confident that I can prove myself there”.
Moreno will play his final home match for SoCal SC next Sunday (June 18) as the team takes on Orange County FC at the Fairplex, at 11AM (PT). Tickets are already on sale.
